Care in the autumn years

Latest Update on Covid-19

Everyone at Glasgow’s Golden Generation continues to work to support older adults across Glasgow during this worrying time. Whilst there have been some changes to services, all are operating in some form with telephone support being provided in place of face to face visits.

staff preparing goods for deliveryMost excitingly, we have introduced a new service where we are delivering boxes of essentials to the doorsteps of older adults. This is operating out of our day care centres but is open to all over 55 year olds in Glasgow and is completely free of charge. These packages include essentials like milk, bread, tinned goods and toiletries such as soap. The public response to this service has been overwhelming and we have also had donations of £10k from Celtic Foundation and £4k from SP Energy Networks to support this. Additionally, we have had support from many businesses such as Distill, Kelloggs, Warburtons and many more.

GGG is acutely aware that older adults who have no support networks will need assistance at this time and the charity is doing everything it can to help.

Older adults or those who care for them who need this support should contact their nearest day centre to request a delivery:

Glasgow South – David Cargill Centre – 0141 632 7391

Glasgow North/West – Fred Paton Centre – 0141 353 0720

Glasgow East – Mattie Carwood Centre – 0141 766 0000

Please note, outwith staffed hours an answer machine will be in operation and you should leave a message with your details.

You can also drop off any donations such as tins, non-perishables and toiletries on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 8.30am – 4.30pm.

All centres are adhering to government guidance and ensuring the safety of both staff and clients while delivering this service.

Children and young people have been asked to draw pictures for us to include in the packages and we have had a lovely response to this too. Some pictures which we have had sent in are attached – I’m sure they’ll make our older adults smile!

Glasgow’s Golden Generation is doing everything it can to continue caring in the autumn years, thank you for your ongoing support.
