Glasgow’s Golden Generation hosted Christmas parties in its day centres for the first time since 2019 in December.
The charity has had to cancel parties over the past two years because of the pandemic but is going all out to celebrate this year thanks to some fantastic sponsors.
GGG runs three day centres throughout Glasgow with the Fred Paton Day Centre in the west, Mattie Carwood Day Centre in the east and David Cargill Day Centre in the south of Glasgow.
This year Clyde Football Club are sponsoring Fred Paton Day Centre’s celebrations as part of SPFL’s Festive Friends initiative.
This means every service user attending the day centre attended at least one Christmas party in the venue in addition to external parties hosted in the community.
Senior Support Worker of Fred Paton Day Centre Karen Lochrie added,
“We tried our best to keep things festive the last few Christmases, but it’s never the same as everyone getting together to celebrate.
“We’ve got Christmas dinner, entertainment and presents for our service users so they’re all in for a treat.
“A lot of our older adults don’t have family, but here they’re amongst friends so can celebrate together.
“There’s a lovely, community feeling in the centre throughout the year, but at this time of year it feels like a family Christmas!”
Clyde Football FC said,
“We’re delighted to be able to spread some Christmas cheer this year – it’s badly needed!
“To be able to fund five parties for the centre is incredible and we just can’t wait!”
Fred Paton Day Centre is open Monday to Friday and currently has places available in the new year.
