Care in the autumn years

Ashurst’s raise 10k for Glasgow’s Golden Generation

The Glasgow office of an international law firm has raised a tremendous ten thousand pounds for Glasgow’s Golden Generation, a charity supporting older adults in the city.

Ashurst’s Glasgow office chose Glasgow’s Golden Generation as their ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2018 after hearing about the work the charity undertakes to prevent loneliness and isolation in older adults across Glasgow.

As 2018 was Glasgow’s Golden Generation’s 70th anniversary, it was the perfect partnership to commemorate 70 years of supporting older adults.

Staff from Ashurst both raised funds and attended events and volunteered in the charity’s day care centres and shop.

Vikki Campbell, Chair of Ashurst Glasgow’s 2018 CR Committee said,

“Our staff picked Glasgow’s Golden Generation as our 2018 Charity of the Year after hearing their CEO explaining the need for the charity’s services in Glasgow.

“Teams from across Ashurst painted day care centres, led reminiscence activities with service users and zipped across the Clyde for the charity to name but a few of the activities.

“It’s been a thoroughly enjoyable experience for all of our staff and we’re so pleased to have raised this amount for the charity.”

Lynsey Neilson, Partnerships Fundraising Manager for Glasgow’s Golden Generation said,

“Ashurst has been the dream partnership for our 70th Anniversary year. Everyone was hands on and happy to help with anything we asked.

“Over the course of the year Ashurst also had 10 zipliners, 20 Kiltwalkers walking an amazing 26 miles and helped out at our Ladies Sparkling Afternoon Tea alongside lots of inhouse fundraising events.

“Our service users loved visiting Ashurst’s Glasgow office  – likening it to a luxury hotel! – and it was great to see staff building a rapport with the service users.

“The £10,000 will be used to help Glasgow’s Golden Generation care for more older adults in their Autumn years across Glasgow. We can’t thank Ashurst enough for the firm’s support this year and would love to hear from any Glasgow businesses who would like to partner with us in the future.”

Glasgow’s Golden Generation supports older adults in Glasgow through four key services: Day Care Centres, Befriending, Welfare Advice and over 100 Weekly Clubs. All four of these services focus on early intervention to decrease loneliness and isolation in over 55 year olds.
